Making Friends

2. The Right to Make Friends and Freely Meet in Groups
"Every child has the right to play together, have fun, make friends. The way to have a friend is to be one."

In a delegation to Regional Council on May 8, four Grade three students, Prithvi Meduri, Jay Rabari, Grahi Desai, and Nadira Suckoo from Lancaster Public School explained to Councillors that having friends makes them feel confident and happy. Their teacher, Barry Van Dompseler explained how healthy relationships in children’s early, adolescent and teen years help them
be successful later in life.

Prithvi Meduri, Jay Rabari, Grahi Desai, Nadira Suckoo talked about their own experiences meeting and keeping friends. They talked about feelings of loneliness when they were new to both school and country, and how being shy was difficult to overcome. In their own words, they explained that being included and having each other helped them feel more confident and happy.
