7. The Right to a caring Home Environment
"Every child has the right to love."

Peel Children’s Charter of Rights committee member, Josephine Bau led a delegation on the child’s right to a caring home environment to the Peel Regional Council.
In her presentation, Ms. Bau explained that Peel Children’s Aid is at the forefront of ensuring that children receive the “Right to a Caring Home Environment” by seeking and implementing ways to strengthen families.

Alexa Deece-Cassidy  and her husband Sean, adopted their daughter, Aleisha.Alexa Deece-Cassidy from the Peel Children's Aid Society. Alexa described how she and her husband decided that an older child in need of a permanent family was the right option for them. While attending an adoption conference, they saw pictures of Aleisha and worked with a social worker to learn more and eventually meet her. Aleisha described her point of view on the Right to a Caring Home Environment. She specifically focused on the children’s words: “Every child has the right to love”. Her pictures illustrated her new life with her adoptive parents: playing, doing chores, travelling and spending time with her extended adoptive and biological families.
